"A Dram Come True" pairs some of the world's best whiskeys and Vancouver's best eats

Like so many great writers, William Faulker loved to drink. “I usually write at night,” he’s been quoted as saying to his French translator. “I always keep my whiskey within reach; so many ideas that I can’t remember in the morning pop into my head.”

The late Nobel Prize laureate might have appreciated an upcoming gathering that will combine the best of both worlds.

A Dram Come True is an evening of whiskeys from around the globe. Taking place on Friday (March 10) at Performance Works on Granville Island, the event will also feature gin and other spirits from Scotland, Japan, and India, among other places, as well as B.C. wine and craft beer.

Glasses will be raised—and so will funds in support of the not-for-profit Vancouver Writers Fest.

Odd Society Spirits, Highland Park, Macallan, Scapa, Okanagan Spirits, Aberlour, Glenlivet, Parkside Brewery, Pemberton Valley, and Sons of Vancouver Distillery are just some of the pourers that will be on hand to share the stories behind their sips; samples are unlimited.

Gourmet food will be served by Hawksworth—which recently rankted sixth in Canada's Best 100 Restaurants—Bauhaus, Cabrito, Buttery Bakery, and Savoury City Catering. Gyoza Bar, meanwhile, will be cooking its dumplings on-site.

A celebration of story that takes place every October, the Vancouver Writers Fest creates a forum for authors and readers to connect.

Tickets ($100 each or $700 for eight) are available at Eventbrite.ca. A Dram Come True goes from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.—leaving you plenty of time to go home that night and write.
