What do you get when you pair B.C. VQA wines and good food together? A helluva time.
The 13th annual Chef Meets B.C. Grape returns to the city next Thursday (May 25) at Vancouver Convention Centre East (999 Canada Place) from 7 to 10:30 p.m.
The multi-city wine and food event will see 90 B.C. wineries pour over 350 B.C. VQA wines from various regions, including the Okanagan Valley, Simikameen Valley, Vancouver Island, and Fraser Valley.
Some of the featured wineries include Borrowing Owl Estate Winery; Culmina Family Estate Winery; Haywire; Gray Monk Estate Winery; Sage Hills Vineyard; Tinhorn Creek; and more.
Local chefs from 15 different restaurants will be participating at the event, serving up small bites for guests to pair with their wines.
Featured chefs include Trevor Bird of Fable; Takahiro Sato of Hapa Izakaya; Ned Bell of Vancouver Aquarium; Clement Chan of Torafuku; and Weimar Gomez of Yew Seafood + Bar, among others.
They will also be competing in a pairing challenge, creating a dish using the best locally grown and sourced ingredients to go with wines. Winners of the challenges will be presented with awards such as Judges’ Best B.C. VQA Pairing and Judges’ Best Dish Award.
A portion of the proceeds from this food and drink event will benefit local charities; ticket sales will support Ocean Wise, the Arts Club, and the B.C. Hospitality Foundation.
