American Academy of Hospitality Sciences president Joseph Cinque and international general manager Karen Lynn Dixon visited Vancouver to present the award on October 27 at a party at the Melville Street hotel, which was attended by numerous celebrities.

The hotel was developed by the de Cotiis family, which owns Amacon, a major Vancouver developer. President Marcello de Cotiis and his sister Lilliana accepted the award.

The AAHS also honoured their late father, Amalio De Cotiis, with its first Lifetime Achievement Award ever given in Canada.

Among those in attendance at the party were CBC news anchor Gloria Macarenko, B.C. Lions centre Angus Reid, NPA mayoral candidate Suzanne Anton, and Shaw TV host Fiona Forbes.

In addition, the AAHS granted a restaurant award to the hotel's Tableau Bar Bistro, as well as a Chef Plate and Medallion Award to executive chef Marc-Andre Choquette.

The AAHS is based in New York and the board includes Donald Trump, as well as leaders in the hospitality industry. But the hotel isn't only winning awards from organizations outside of the country. Tableau was also named the Best New Restaurant by Georgia Straight readers this year in Best New Restaurant by Georgia Straight readers this year in the annual Best of Vancouver awards.
