Nanaimo's Fat Cat Brewery
Nanaimo's Fat Cat Brewery Web site ( www.fatcatbrewery.com/) states that it aims to "make good delicious beer in small controlled batches" and to "use as many local services and products as possible". That's a laudable manifesto for its principals, listed on the site as "Bunny, Rob, Rick and Rotten Cat". They've come up with a major winner in Bunny's Black & Tan, a blend of porter and caramel cream ale ($4.50 for 650 millilitres) available through the LDB. It looks stoutlike, with that superdark colour and creamy head, but then comes the nifty fruity aroma, a mellow lightness on the tongue and nice bites at the back. Excellent brew start to finish, and a generous pour at a good price.
