Let’s face it. Many people think vegan food is… How shall we put this? Godawful. Roberto Martin addresses this head-on with Vegan Cooking for Carnivores: Over 125 Recipes So Tasty You Won’t Miss the Meat (Grand Central). Martin is the personal chef of Ellen DeGeneres, who converted to veganism four years ago. The recipes are a nice mix of traditional comfort food, such as shepherd’s pie and stuffed mushrooms, and more modern dishes like shaved fennel salad, faux pho, and tofu crab cakes. Martin’s tone isn’t preachy, making cooking out of your comfort zone more appealing.
