Splurge on new age-defined Courvoisier Cognacs

If there’s a splurgish bone in your body (and you’ve been socking away toonies since the summer!), you might want to get yourself some of the new “age declared” Courvoisier Cognacs. Two are new in town: a 12-year-old and a 21-year-old. Either makes a special gift or a self-indulgent treat. It’s a new thing: the first ever Cognacs from one of the four major houses to be defined and marketed by age rather than the traditional Cognac categories like VS, VSOP, or XO. The 12-year has rich, deep colour, very mellow, lots of toffee, baba au rhum flavours, toasted nuts—great with dry nectarines or almond brittle. (What? You don’t do Cognac with your almond brittle? Thought everybody did.) It’s $89.95 in the LDB, selectively. The 21-year-old is stunning: deep orange-brown colour, super-mellow, takes your breath away. Fabulous and lengthy finish, simply delicious and at $349.95 it damn well better be. This one’s just dropped in at some Signature stores. You might have to take a number…
