Vancouver’s largest street-food gathering this Canada Day at Waldorf Hotel

Comments

There’s a new celebratory option this Canada Day (July 1), and for foodies, it looks like a great one. The Waldorf Hotel (1489 East Hastings Street) is working with the Street Food Vancouver Society to put on a Canada Day Block Party from noon to 7 p.m.

The free, family-friendly event features live music, DJs, and the largest gathering of food carts ever in Vancouver selling their wares in the Waldorf’s parking lot. Ten trucks are confirmed so far, including Soho Road, Tacofino, Off the Wagon, and Mom’s Grilled Cheese Truck. A beer garden will help wash it all down.

“It will be the largest gathering of food carts we’ve had in Vancouver to date,” said Zach Berman, co-owner of the The Juice Truck , in a phone interview with the Straight. Berman is on the board of directors of the Street Food Vancouver Society, a nonprofit association made up of those who run street-food operations. The association’s first event, Street Food City, took place at the Vancouver Art Gallery last January as part of Dine Out Vancouver.

Berman said that the association hopes to stage more events this summer, including an event similar to Street Food City.

Oh the Juice Truck...$7.50 for a juice smoothie in downtown eastside. Doesn't that seem steep? Where is the affordable food going?

Don't you realize 'affordable' doesn't happen anywhere in Vancouver?

Food trucks are over priced! The charge restaurant prices for sidewalk food! That's too bad....
