The Georgia Straight, has an immediate opening for an experienced LAMP System Administrator to join our Web Department for a contract position with the potential for a permanent position. This individual will be responsible for troubleshooting, tuning, optimizing, and maintaining our web server environments. Working closely with the web team this role will address performance issues and keep the server environments highly optimized. The Systems Administrator will be responsible for effective provisioning, installation/ configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related web infrastructure and systems. This individual will also participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure.
Key Activities and Duties
- Maintenance and optimization of current websites
- Code deployments, trouble shooting and house-keeping
- Manage web server development, staging, and production environments (LAMP)
- Work with the web developers to ensure a great user experience on our websites
- Conduct performance/stress testing when necessary
Knowledge & Skill Requirements
- Professional working experience in LAMP Server System Administration and Management
- Experience with Drupal, Memcache and Amazon AWS strongly preferred
- Experience with distributed architectures, database tuning, load balancing
- Excellent knowledge of web-based content management systems
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and pick up new technologies quickly
- Self-motivated, analytical, and very detail-oriented
