Nine retailers will open at Pacific Centre when the shopping mall’s expansion is completed later this year.

In an announcement today (March 9), owner Cadillac Fairview listed Kate Spade, Ted Baker London, and Microsoft, as some of the brands moving into Pacific Centre’s new retail space.

“These stores will enhance the shopping experience for our customers and give them another reason to shop downtown,” Tom Knoepfel, senior VP and portfoliom for Cadillac Fairview, stated in a news release. “Having the best selection of international fashion and tech retailers in one convenient location is a key factor in Pacific Centre’s continued success.”

The Kate Spade shop marks the second B.C. location for the New York-based women’s clothing brand. (A Kate Spade store opened in West Vancouver’s Park Royal mall in 2014).

Meanwhile, Pacific Centre will house the first Canadian store outside of Toronto for British fashion label Ted Baker London.

Other brands moving into Pacific Centre include jeweller PANDORA, Canadian shoe store B2, high-end menswear label BOSS, shoe company Rockport, luggage shop TUMI, and clothing brand Weekend Max Mara. The expansion, which includes a new entrance at Robson and Granville streets, is scheduled to open this summer.

Canada’s first Nordstrom department store, which replaced the downtown location of Sears, is expected to open at the south end of Pacific Centre by fall 2015.

The Pacific Centre expansion is part of more changes to downtown’s retail scene. Robson Street has seen major changes to its shopping district over the past few years, with big brands, like J. Crew and Sephora, moving in.

In 2014, both lululemon athletica and L’OCCITANE en Provence opened expansive flagship locations at the busy intersection of Robson and Burrard streets. A year earlier, Victoria’s Secret took over the 35,000 square-foot, two-storey building previously occupied by HMV (which has since opened a smaller location a few blocks west on Robson Street).

Despite a less-than-a-year-old American Girl boutique within Chapters on Robson, owner Indigo announced that it would close the three-floor location on May 31.

If there's one thing Vancouver needs, it's more high-end stores. Robson is simply delightful, a real gem that just gets better and better - you just have to ignore the weird juxtaposition of fabulously high-end shops that you can find in every other North American city, and the numerous empty stores and papered-over windows with For Lease signs.

      Onward and upward!
