Summer Dreams Literary Arts Festival celebrates 10 years
The Summer Dreams Literary Arts Festival marks its 10th anniversary this Saturday (August 24) with a strong lineup of local writing talent gathered at the event’s urban-pastoral setting in John Hendry Park (Trout Lake). From noon to 6 p.m., you’ll find everything from poetry readings by the likes of Chris Gilpin and Jen Currin to panels featuring authors Dennis E. Bolen and Kevin Chong, as well as storytelling, slams, and theatrical performances. Not to mention workshops and information tables. And a separate kids’ stage. And live music by the Wanda Nowicki Quarter and alt-cellist Cris Derksen… Summer Dreams packs a lot into six hours. And before it all kicks off, there’s a Friday night (August 23) literary awards gala at CBC Studio 700 (700 Hamilton Street), with special honours going to Joy Kogawa. Admission is free to both gala and festival. See sites.google.com/site/summerdreamsfest/ for details.
