Bruce Jenner will follow ABC interview with documentary series of him living as a transgender woman
There's going to be a new TV series featuring Bruce Jenner. It will consist of eight one-hour documentaries that will show him living as a transgender woman.
E! has announced that the show will premiere on July 26.
“Bruce is incredibly courageous and an inspiration, and we are proud to be entrusted with this deeply personal and important story,” E! vice president Jeff Olde said in a news release. “This series will present an unfiltered look as Bruce boldly steps into uncharted territory and is true to himself for the first time.”
Last night, much of North America was riveted as Olympic gold medallist Bruce Jenner revealed on ABC's 20/20 show that he's living as a transgender woman. Jenner, 65, continues to use male pronouns to describe himself in the media.
He told interviewer Diane Sawyer that as a child, he would sometimes dress in his sister's clothes and put his mother's scarf on his head and walk outside.
The program featured his four children from his first two marriages on-screen, who all expressed their love and support for their dad. Two of his former wives, Linda Thompson and Chrystie Jenner, provided statements of support, as did the two other children he fathered. His sister and his mom also made appearances in the show.
Jenner has most recently costarred in a reality series with the Kardashian sisters and his third wife, Kris. ABC's 20/20 said that Kris Jenner had no comment. She then stated over Twitter that nobody had asked her to comment and that she and her family were watching the show with Jenner.
Sawyer and Jenner each emphasized during the interview that gender identity should not be confused with sexual orientation. Jenner said that he has always been attracted to women.
He also disclosed that he's religious and believes that God chose him to deal with his gender-identity issue so that he could help others.
“If I die, which, I could be diagnosed next week with cancer—and boom you’re gone,” Jenner said. “I would be so mad at myself that I didn’t explore that side of me. You know? And I don’t want that to happen."
Jenner said that he told his children that God gave him "the soul of a woman". He's taking hormone treatments and hasn't decided if he will have sex-reassignment surgery.
He also revealed that his one of his four stepchildren, Khloé Kardashian, had the most difficulty with his transition to being a woman because he has been a stable and important male figure in her life.
Among his other stepchildren, he said that Kim Kardashian was the first to express support.
"She said, 'Girl, you gotta rock it baby. You're representing the family and you've gotta look very good.' "
