After a few years away from the denim scene, Vancouverite and Dish Jeans founder Gary Lenett has returned with a line of incredibly comfortable jeans that cater to the athleisure demographic.

Created for the active lifestyle, his new line is available at Dish's pop-up shop (339 Railway Street) in Railtown, which launches today (June 19) and will be open until the end of August.

"This is a proprietary fabric that we spent about three years developing. We call it our L2X fabric, which means 'leisure to extreme'," explained Lenett during an interview at the shop. "We take all the best elements of performance wear, and we infuse them into denim."

Lenett paired with New York-based performance wear developer Steven Sal Debus to create the advanced line, where "function meets fashion" and no physical activities are off-limits.

"I've done yoga, I've done the Grouse Grind, I ride my bike over an hour each way to work, so we have tested it out hard," said Lenett.

"I'm up and down the North Shore every single day riding in jeans, I've played bike polo in them, skateboarded, basically we've been taking them wherever we can to test them out," added Sal Debus. A group of parkour athletes were also asked to test out the jeans, and Sal Debus said the denim was received very well.

A second fabric, called N2X, which stands for "nature to extreme:, combines wood pulp from eucalyptus trees with a blend of polyester, cotton, and spandex to create a natural, antibacterial fabric that wicks away moisture and helps manage body temperature.

The men's line, DU/ER, offers a slim or relaxed fit ($129), while the women's line offers more choices: skinny, straight and narrow, relaxed skinny, and a boyfriend fit ($119), with plans to release a flared jean in the spring of 2016. While the men's jeans are five times stretchier standard denim, Lenett says the jeans are built for durability and will retain their shape.

"You're getting a lot of durability out of this performance polyester, and you're also getting a lot more comfort... it's letting you be really comfortable like you would be in a pair of performance pants, but you happen to be wearing jeans that feel and look like jeans," said Sal Debus.

"We've gotten pretty ambitious and we're going to be doing a bunch of pop-up shops around North America over the next couple of months, but this is our start," said Lenett.

The pop-up shop will be open until 6 p.m. today for its official launch. Standard shop hours are between 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday, but it will be open this Saturday (June 20) between 11 p.m. to 5 p.m.

You don't "do" yoga... you "practice" it.
      Namaste ;)
