A designer who helped make Hawaiian shirts hip will be in Vancouver on Sunday (August 30) to speak at an event honouring a young dancer.

Joey Rodolfo is former senior vice president of men's design with the Tommy Bahama clothing brand. He also cofounded Bench Company, Cutter & Buck, JR 1879, and Resort Two.

His motto is: "Classic is simple. Simple is classic."

Rodolfo often offers blunt observations on fashion that doesn't fit that description.

He'll give the keynote address at the Roundhouse Community Arts + Recreation Centre for the 2015 Cultural Architect Award event.

This year's winner is 16-year-old U.S. dancer Christina Ricucci, who cofounded a charity called Artists Giving Hope.

It encourages dancers to help charities that promote people to act with compassion toward others, regardless of their race, gender, or sexuality orientation.

The World Ballet Competition gold medallist has had her career interrupted by Lyme disease.

Dancer Christina Ricucci started promoting equal rights at a very young age.

Joey will give an inspiring talk… I wish I could be there in person to hear him speak.
