First-ever Vancouver Web Fest planned for May 2014

      A new festival plans to bring together makers and fans of web series to celebrate the emerging medium in Vancouver.

      The inaugural Vancouver Web Fest is set to take place May 2 to 4, 2014, at the Imperial theatre (319 Main Street).

      According to VWF's December 2 news release, a pre-launch party will be followed by web-series screenings, pitch sessions, panel discussions, and an awards ceremony.

      Awards will be presented in the following categories: Overall Series, Actor, Actress, Comedy, Drama, Action/Adventure, Fantasy/Science Fiction, Mystery/Thriller, Horror, Documentary/Non-Fiction, Animation, Reality, App Based Series, Foreign, and Musical.

      Walter Daroshin, president of Troika Productions and the Leo Awards; Paul Armstrong, founder of the Celluloid Social Club and executive director of Crazy8s; and actor Marina Darling will be among the judges.

      Suzette Laqua, co-creator of the comedy web series Last Chance Casting, is the fest's founder and executive director.

      VWF has made partnerships with the Marseille Web Fest, Melbourne WebFest, Hollyweb, and Roma Web Fest.

      The deadline for regular submissions ($65 entry fee) is December 15. Late submissions ($80 entry fee) will be accepted until January 15, 2014.
