Fraser Health has reported that more than a dozen patients with the H1N1 flu virus are in intensive care and being ventilated.

The regional health authority, which extends from Burnaby to the Fraser Valley, states on its website that the patients are adults across the age spectrum, including some who are pregnant and others with chronic illnesses.

Chief medical health officer Dr. Paul Van Buynder says he expects all the patients to recover.

Significant outbreaks of H1N1 flu have been reported in Alberta, Texas, and Ontario. There have been five confirmed dealths in Alberta

Those who've received the 2013 vaccine for influenza are immunized against the H1N1 strain.

"We are urging those who have not already had their flu shot to get one," Van Buynder said in a news release. "It is not too late."
