Homestead Junction: East Vancouver homesteading hub rebrands and adapts more collaborative vision for store

The DIY company Homesteader’s Emporium has rebranded as Homestead Junction, signalling a different approach in its business model.

Founded in 2012 by owner Rick Havlak, the store offers hard-to-find supplies for customers who are enthusiastic about urban-homesteading projects.

The company also provides workshops and seminars on projects such as cheese making, fermenting, soap making, and more.

That's led Havlak to realize his shop also focuses on connecting customers and suppliers, resulting in a new store mandate: a renewed commitment to collaboration.

“We’ve realized the products we sell are only a small part of what people come for,” said Havlak in a press statement. “More and more people want to learn, and more people have skills they want to share.”

The team at Homestead Junction has a vision to continue expanding their relationships with local farmers, artisans, teachers, and students.

“An emporium is just a store… and we love our store but it’s not really the main thing we’re about,” added Havlak.

The official transition to Homestead Junction takes place this Saturday (November 28) during its Winter Craft Market (649 East Hastings Street) from 12 to 4 p.m.
