One of the B.C.'s most serene getaway locations is also one of the greenest.

The Pemberton Valley Lodge has won the Green Key Energy and Environment Award of Excellence from the Hotel Association of Canada.

It came as a result of, among other things, its hotel recycling program, water-conserving bathroom fixtures, use of recycled paper products and green cleaning supplies, composting, and purchase of green-energy credits from Bullfrog Power.

Guests at the 85-room four-season resort north of Whistler can even give their electric vehicles a boost at an on-site charging station.

"We are constantly looking at ways to make the lodge more energy efficient, to reduce our carbon footprint and offer our guests a ‘greener’ experience,” general manager David MacKenzie said in a news release. “Whether it’s dying our old towels to have a second life as pool towels, or investigating alternate energy sources, we're committed to being a leader in this field."

It's not the Pemberton Valley Lodge's only environmental honour.

It has also been recognized by Trip Advisor's GreenLeaders program, Green Tourism Canada, and Small Business B.C.

“At the Pemberton Valley Lodge all of us are committed to delivering service excellence," MacKenzie stated. "Working within the parameters a wide-reaching sustainability program is a part of fulfilling that promise. It's good for our budget. It's good for our guests. And it's good for the planet."
