A slower economy has led to the cancellation of WestJet routes between Canada's two westernmost provinces.

CBC News has reported that the airline has eliminated direct flights between Edmonton and Kamloops and Edmonton and Nanaimo.

Flights have also been chopped between Calgary and Terrace and Calgary and Prince George.

The report came on the same day that WestJet announced three new three weekly nonstop flights between Vancouver and San Diego.

There will also be additional service linking Vancouver to Los Angeles, Honolulu, and Maui.

That's not all. WestJet revealed that new nonstop services will be offered this summer from Toronto and three U.S. cities: Nashville, Boston, and Los Angeles.

There's also a new nonstop route from Calgary to Thunder Bay coming in the peak summer period.
