Fjällräven Kånken—the colourful boxy backpacks from Sweden—have been gaining popularity over the past few years, and now the Scandinavian outdoor brand is preparing to open their first Canadian retail location. Fjällräven will open at 147 West Broadway on Friday (April 25).

The 3,000 square-foot Vancouver outpost will carry more than just backpacks. Shoppers will also find a selection of the brand’s outerwear, clothes, backpacks, and accessories, as well as outdoor gear from Fjällräven’s sister brands Hanwag, Primus, and Brunton.

“Vancouver and the surrounding mountains are world renowned for their beauty and endless opportunities for adventure, making it an optimal choice for our first Canadian location,” Nathan Dopp, vice-president of sales and marketing for Fjällräven in North America, stated in a news release.

“This gateway city, filled with outdoor enthusiasts will give us a perfect place to align with the community and become a destination for avid outdoor and city centric consumers.”

Fjällräven was founded in 1960 in the Swedish town of Örnsköldsvik, and has since grown to establish itself in over 30 countries. In the past year, the outdoor brand opened five locations in North America.

Hi Jacob P. The Fjallraven location is not a pop-up shop. AJ Brooks has closed at 147 West Broadway.

The Kanken seems to keep this brand going. Soon to be phased out due to it's over exposure around the world. Clothing is too expensive for a nylon/cotton mix made in China.
