Vancouver Coastal Health issued a warning on March 11 to passengers on a flight from Beijing to Vancouver that they could be at risk for developing measles.

A passenger on Air China flight CA991 from Beijing to Vancouver, which arrived on March 3 at 9:30 a.m., developed measles symptoms after arrival.

VCH is advising anyone who was on the flight or in the international arrivals area at Vancouver International Airport around that time period to check to ensure that they are current with measles vaccinations.

Those who do not have up-to-date immunization can get a free vaccine from their doctor, at a local public health unity, or at a walk-in clinic.

Until March 24, passengers should watch for symptoms of fever, cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis (pink eye), or a red rash. Due to the highly infectious nature of measles, individuals who develop these symptoms should contact a doctor by phone and call VCH Public Health (604-736-9244) to report your illness.
