U.K. jewellery designer Imogen Belfield launched her new Fine Collection at Vancouver’s Wardrobe Apparel (67 East Cordova Street) on Thursday (April 14) and will be available for commissioned works until Wednesday (April 20).

The celebrated designer, whose pieces have been sported by the likes of FKA Twigs, Naomi Campbell, and Ellie Goulding, has crafted a line of stackable rings and earrings—each with a decidedly organic feel—that serve as more pared-down versions of her structural editorial pieces.

“It was a natural progression,” Belfield says of the line, sitting down with the Straight at Wardrobe Apparel, “and it was also about appealing to existing or new customers who like what I do, but prefer something finer.”

The Fine Collection, which starts at $450, is made from 18-karat yellow gold and an assortment of precious gemstones that the designer sources from Hatton Garden, one of two primary jewellery quarters in London, U.K., and the city’s Natural History Museum. Many of the gemstones are originally from India and Belfield works with a diamond dealer to source stones from Belgium.

Belfield began playing with textural jewellery after encasing organic frutis and vegetables from London's Brick Lane Market in porcelain.

“I’m finding more and more with customers, they want to know where things are sourced from,” she says. “The metals are recycled as well, so there’s this sustainable stance to brand, which is really important to me.”

The designer began developing her signature “rockesque” aesthetic during university, when she encased organic fruits and vegetables from London’s Brick Lane Market in porcelain for her first editorial collection. Since then, she has crafted custom statement pieces for stars like Madonna and Beyoncé.

As for why the designer decided to make her North American debut in Vancouver? Let’s just say it reminds her a little of home. “I have a soft spot for Vancouver,” she says, “Gastown especially, because it reminds me of East London. It’s got this edginess to it.”

Belfield’s Fine Collection, as well as select pieces from her original fashion-forward line, is available exclusively in North America at Wardrobe Apparel. To book a one-on-one consultation with the designer for a custom piece, email info@wdrobeapparel.com between today and Wednesday (April 18 to 20).
