Valve representatives will be in Vancouver this weekend talking about the Bellevue, Washington–based company’s work on a virtual-reality headset. Chet Faliszek and Aaron Leiby will appear at the second Full Indie Summit, which has been moved from spring to summer to coincide with SIGGRAPH 2014.

According to Kimberly Voll, one of Full Indie’s organizers, Vancouver has one of the world’s largest communities of independent game developers. Upwards of 300 of them gather every month at informal meet-ups where they share ideas and game demos.

“There’s a vibrant, active community that wants to be connected,” Voll said in a phone interview with the Straight.

The summit draws on the expertise of the local community and serves as a professional-development opportunity for local game makers who can’t get to San Francisco for the Game Developers Conference.

“The intent is for this to become something that is a well-recognized event that people look forward to every year,” Voll said.

Other speakers include Rami Ismail of Vlambeer, Alec Holowka of Infinite Ammo, Nick Suttner of Sony, and Carl Callewaert of Unity.

The summit takes place at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage (2750 Granville Street) on Saturday and Sunday (August 9 and 10). Tickets are $30.
