Montreal's WANT Apothecary opens Vancouver boutique
Montreal-born clothing and lifestyle boutique WANT Apothecary has opened its first West Coast outpost in Vancouver. Nestled among the art galleries and shops on South Granville, WANT Apothecary (2956 Granville Street) fits right into the neighbourhood with its charming boutique storefront and European flair.
The shop is meant to recapture the atmosphere of a 19th-century pharmacy, and it does this well in its details—sales associates don crisp white lab coats, beauty and skincare products are displayed neatly on a back wall, and chandeliers appear inspired by molecular model sets used in organic chemistry.
The house label, WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie, is a collection of classic, mostly leather, goods. Tote bags, wallets, duffle bags, briefcases, and sophisticated backpacks are among the offerings (with prices starting just over $100). The latest fall collection—which adds a Gray Mountain-inspired design, as well as earthy blanket stripes and classic houndstooth prints in wool fabrics into the mix—are available in store now.
In addition to the WANT label, the Vancouver boutique carries a carefully curated selection of European—mainly Scandinavian—clothing brands, including Filippa K, Acne Studios, Masion Kitsuné, Nudie Jeans, Arc’teryx Veilance, and Steven Alan.
In the “pharmacy” section at the back of the shop, cult favourites, such as Aesop, Bryedo, Ursa Major, and Astier de Villatte can be found.
This is the third boutique for the Montreal-headquartered brand. WANT Apothecary opened a location on Toronto’s Yonge Street earlier this year.
