      May 26–29: My Modern Closet pop-up shop

      Vancouver-based online consignment shop My Modern Closet is hosting another pop-up shop at Space (552 Clark Drive) from tonight until Sunday (May 26 to 29). Browse a curated selection of new and gently used women’s apparel, including outerwear, athletic gear, and accessories like hats and scarves. Check out the pop-up’s theme days if you’re hunting for a certain item: Friday (May 27) will feature wardrobe basics like blazers, denim, and plain white Ts; and Saturday (May 28) will feature festival-ready pieces like kimono tops, high-waist shorts, and breezy summer frocks. My Modern Closet will also be screening the documentary film The True Cost tonight (May 29) from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., after the pop-up’s opening hours, to shed light on the harmful effects of fast-fashion practices. Handmade clothing by Friends Made Co. and floral arrangements by Serpent Botanicals will also be available for sale.

      May 28: Yaletown spring pop-up market

      The Vancouver Farmers Market may be moving from Yaletown to Queen Elizabeth Theatre Plaza for the summer, but this Saturday’s (May 28) Yaletown spring pop-up market will ensure that residents of the area can still get their hands on an assortment of artisan goodies. Stop by 89 Smithe Street—just west of BC Place—from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and browse printed and faux-leather leggings from Agnes & Dora, diffusers and essential oil blends by Young Living, and crystal jewellery by Zuka Artful Accessories. Representatives from international beauty companies Avon, Rodan + Fields, and Jamberry will also be on-site with cosmetics, skincare products, and a rainbow of nail lacquers to get you prepped for summer.

      May 28: James Black Gallery studio sale

      The James Black Gallery (144 East 6th Avenue) is doing some spring cleaning this Saturday (May 28), which gives you the chance to score works by local artists for killer deals. A handful of the gallery’s resident artists will be joined by other creative minds from the city from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., where they’ll be selling everything from paintings and multimedia prints to ceramics, decorative buttons, and zines. Check out a selection of travel photographs by Nisha Planeteer, adorable fruit- and cacti-shaped felt pins by Rosalie Weeks, and Vancity lino prints by Kaitlynn Rogers, starting at just $5 a pop. Handmade jewellery, dinnerware, and planters will also be up for grabs.

      May 28–29: Portobello West Summer Market

      Portobello West—Vancouver’s own version of the popular Portobello Road Market from across the pond—returns to the Creekside Community Centre (1 Athlete’s Way) this Saturday and Sunday (May 28 to 29) for its annual summer iteration. Shop handcrafted goods from more than 60 local vendors, including reclaimed wood candles by Bam Woodworks, boho-chic halter-tops by Rasa Clothing, and adorable concrete planters by Em’say, plus an assortment of one-of-a-kind jewellery from lines like Bluefish Bohemian. You can even snag tasty cookies, teas, and spirits from homegrown companies like Sable Shortbread, Mountain Tea Co., and Old Order Distilling Co. Food trucks will also be lined up outside and the first 50 guests through the door will be entered into a draw to win a Portobello West gift pack valued at over $300.

      Admission is $2 and free for children 12 and under.

      Alberta-born athletic apparel distributor OnwardUp is hosting a massive sample sale this Sunday (May 29) at the Grouse Inn (1633 Capilano Road, North Vancouver) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Shop outdoor apparel and camping, sport, and cycling gear from brands like Patagonia, Black Diamond, prAna, 7Mesh, and Gregory Mountain Products. Among the items available will men’s and women’s T-shirts, sweaters, shorts, and swimwear, plus accessories like yoga mats, scarves, belts, and hats. Hiking and trail shoes will also be available from Oboz, as well as backpacks, ski packs, and climbing harnesses—all at rock bottom prices. Be sure to arrive early, as sizes are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
