Vancouver-based jewellery designer Melanie Auld has joined forces with interior designer, former Bachelorette, and all-around style maven Jillian Harris to craft a summer collection of dainty necklaces, bracelets, and rings for a good cause.

The 11-piece Summer Love line consists of gold-plated necklaces, rings, cuffs, and earrings, starting at $45, each anchored by romantic moonstones, pink opal, and turquoise, plus plenty of heart-shaped charms and motifs.

“We decided to go very, very girly with the hearts and that sort of thing, which is something I’ve never touched before because I tend toward a more modern, bohemian kind of aesthetic,” Auld tells the Straight by phone. “So I thought it would be fun to do something a little out of my box.”

The collection includes a two-piece friendship necklace set, which features a precious heart ornament that is split into two. A set of pavé X and O necklaces can also be shared with friends.

“We were both ‘80s kids, so we grew up in the era of those best-friends necklaces, but we wanted to kind of make it a little bit cooler,” says Auld.

For every Summer Love piece sold, $3.50 will be donated to A Better Life Foundation, a local charity that offers food security and employment opportunities to those living with mental illness in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.  

“We felt it was really important to give back to the community we work and live in,” says Auld, who operates a studio and showroom space in Gastown, “and this is a great way to do it.”

The Summer Love collection is now available exclusively through Melanie Auld Jewelry’s online shop. A limited number of pieces are also available at the Cross Décor & Design (1198 Homer Street). The line will be offered at select retailers beginning in July.
