      August 11–16: Knifewear garage sale

The Calgary-born Knifewear has opened its first Vancouver shop at 4215 Main Street and to celebrate, the specialty blade store is hosting one of its legendary garage sales starting today (August 11). Owner Kevin Kent will have a slew of stock available—all imported from his most recent trip to Japan—including, but not limited to, handcrafted tableware, one-of-a-kind kitchen gadgets, and of course, the super-sharp Japanese knives that the retailer is known for. Expect prices to be slashed in a big way and check out Knifewear’s supply of quirky cookbooks while you’re there. Although the sale takes place over five days, be sure to arrive early to avoid disappointment. (Past events in Calgary have seen a lineup of chefs, foodies, and home-cooks form well before opening.)

Mid-Century Modern Home is one of many vendors who will be offering up a range of vintage furnishings and housewares at this Saturday's (August 13) New West Craft summer night market.

August 13: New West Craft summer night market

Check out New West Pride’s Columbia Street Party this Saturday (August 13) and then mosey on over to the New West Craft summer night market at the River Market (810 Quayside Drive, New Westminster). From 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., over 50 vendors will be stationed along the water hawking a range of handcrafted furnishings, jewellery, body-care items, and more. Among the goods available will be breezy kimonos by Elroy Apparel, vintage, reclaimed wood signs from For the Hive, and upcycled leather totes by Tojo Sticks & Bags. New West’s Re-Up BBQ and Longtail Kitchen will also be onsite to provide grub for keen shoppers.

Local apparel company State of Grace keeps it real with its cheeky Ts, which you can browse in-person in North Vancouver this Sunday (August 14).
      State of Grace

August 13: State of Grace x The Juicery Co. pop-up shop

Premium loungewear—or “hangover-wear”—line State of Grace is hosting a pop-up shop at the Juicery Co.’s original location (3130 Highland Boulevard, North Vancouver) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday (August 13). Pop by to browse designed- and printed-in-Vancouver Ts, sweatpants, and crewnecks, each inscribed with irreverent phrases like “Girls just want to have funds”, “Mimosas on my mind”, and “I’m allergic to bullshit”. (There are also more genuine, though equally hilarious, quips like “Still drunk” and “What’s your wi-fi password?”) Fingers crossed that State will also have its Kaitlyn Bristowe collab on-hand: Bachelorette fans, look out for the very appropriate “Will you accept this rosé?” tanktop.
