In 2014, IDS Vancouver—known as IDSwest at the time—treated designphiles to a Brooklyn-sourced showcase of modest lounge chairs, steel-and-marble tables, and chicken-wire sculptures. In 2015, the spotlight shifted to L.A., which produced a vibrant display of sculptural bar stools, mid-century pendant lights, and splashy, hand-knotted rugs.

Now, the largest design event on the West Coast has expanded its search overseas to establish its latest international design installation: the Dutch Exchange: Eindhoven.

Presented in collaboration with the Consulate General of the Netherlands and online design and architecture magazine DesignMilk, the Dutch Exchange will star works by six Dutch designers, each of whom have honed his or her craft in what is largely considered one of Europe’s most influential design capitals.

The featured designers include Steven Banken, Dirk Vander Kooij, VANTOT’s Esther Jongsma and Sam van Gurp, and Ontwerpduo’s Tineke Beunders and Nathan Wierink.

All six designers are graduates of the renowned Design Academy Eindhoven. From graphic tabletops to copper floor lamps to birdcage-inspired seats, their quirky, innovative pieces will be exhibited in a space crafted by West Vancouver–based firm Burgers Architecture Inc.  

The designers will also participate in a multimedia feature dubbed the Dutch Exchange: 20slidesx20seconds, where they will discuss their work and the ways in which the city of Eindhoven influences their business, creative process, and the local design culture.
