Urban Decay’s first Canadian freestanding store has landed at Metropolis at Metrotown (4700 Kingsway, Burnaby) and before it officially opens its doors to the public this Saturday (September 10), the Straight nabbed a sneak peek of the space in all its purple, light-filled glory.

The 632-square-foot boutique is packed with approximately 600 Urban Decay products, including the brand’s line of Naked falsies, almost 20 online-exclusive shades of Vice lipsticks, and wearable swag inscribed with cheeky phrases like “Vanity kills” and “Look me in the eyeliner and say that”.

Plenty of lights, mirrors, and highly reflective features like a 76-inch nickel chandelier and a custom chrome statue modeled after Urban Decay founder Wendy Zomnir’s black lab, Marley, offer makeup junkies an ideal backdrop to test, apply, and experiment with products.

A selfie station allows shoppers to create GIFs of themselves and friends. The moving images will be broadcasted on a screen outside the store.

During a media tour, Urban Decay’s brand director, Dan Tran, revealed that the shop will also serve as a “preview space”, where fans of the label can get first access to product launches before the items hit the shelves at other cosmetic retailers.

“The brand is from Newport Beach—this is where we have some of our biggest followings,” he says of the decision to open Canada’s first Urban Decay boutique in Burnaby, “so we felt that it totally made sense.”

The shop is hosting a grand-opening party from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. this Saturday (September 10). Beauty bloggers Leigh Dickson, Katie Mulcahy, and Samantha Ravndahl will make appearances and giveaways will be conducted throughout the day.

The first 100 attendees in line will snag a gift card valued anywhere between $10 to $500.
