Le Château closed its location at 813 Burrard Street in downtown Vancouver on August 28.

Executive vice-president Franco Rocchi told the Georgia Straight by phone that the location had been open since the 1990s and is in close proximity to the Pacific Centre location.

"In the '90s before there was e-commerce, brands would try to get as close to the customer as possible physically—the more, the better," he said on the line from Montreal. "In today's digital world, that business model no longer holds water."

He said that approximately 40 stores, particularly ones that are redundant, will be closed over the next three years. The number of stores will be reduced to 171 locations.

However, it will be opening a new location at the new Tsawwassen Mills mall on October 5.

On September 9, the Canadian clothier announced the opening of a new e-commerce and distribution facility in Montreal. The facility, which the company invested $1.1 million in, will centralize all of the company's online functions within one location.

In addition to Pacific Centre, the Canadian fashion retailer also has Lower Mainland locations at Park Royal (West Vancouver), Brentwood Mall, Metrotown, and Richmond Centre.
