Swiss watchmaker Rolex will join Vancouver’s burgeoning “luxury row” this September with the opening of the label’s largest North American boutique yet.

Operated in partnership with local watch and jewellery retailer, Global Watch Company, the shop will be Western Canada’s first Rolex boutique.

Once completed at the Shangri-La Hotel (1128 West Georgia Street), the 2,000-square-foot space will feature high-end details like aqua-glass walls, leather furnishings, and bronze accents that pay homage to the Rolex Oyster, the company’s first waterproof wristwatch designed in 1926.

“Vancouver’s quite a unique city with lots of potential to grow,” Sassan Pourfar, founder of Global Watch Company, tells the Straight of the brand’s decision to open a shop in the city. “It’s a good time especially to get into the luxury market with all the openings downtown.”

Rolex will join a slew of other premium retailers located on and around Alberni Street, including Versace, Prada, and Moncler. Earlier this year, Saint Laurent also opened its first Canadian freestanding store in the area.

Rolex opens at the Shangri-La Hotel (1128 West Georgia Street) on September 30.
