In between wrapping presents and eating gingerbread cookies, get yourself ready for holiday parties and events by indulging in a little rest and rejuvenation. Below, we take a look at several Vancouver beauty services offering nail, eyelash, and facial treatments suited to the season and beyond.

      Festive Fingers and Toes

Kitsilano’s popular Bare Wax Bar recently opened a second location at 2065 West 4th Avenue—just in time for the holiday rush. The new boutique offers the same waxing and eyelash treatments as ones offered at owner Kimmy Le’s West 1st Avenue location, but the new shop also has a large section devoted to nail services.

Before your next holiday bash, settle into the plush banquette seats for a relaxing pedicure ($35) that includes foot and leg scrubs, callous removal, soothing massage, and nail polish application. If seasonal stress has you short on time, enjoy a shorter Express Pedicure ($28), where toenails will be filed, shaped, and polished.

For manicures (starting at $25), we love dark, moody hues like OPI’s I Sing in Color and festive pops of red, such as Butter London’s Saucy Jack, for the season. Make a mani or pedi go the distance—and not worry about touch-ups until after New Year’s—by opting for a gel treatment, which requires ultraviolet light to set the polish and stays on for about three weeks without chipping.

LASH LAB specializes in eyelash extensions using soft and natural mink, sable, and pony hairs.

      The Eyes Have It

The holidays are all about excess and that extends to eyelashes. Before your next seasonal soirée, stop by LASH LAB located inside BeautyMark (1268 Pacific Boulevard). The eyelash extensions salon and retail shop was founded by former Vancouverite Judy Anderson in San Francisco five years ago. In September, Anderson opened her first Vancouver location.

For a quick fix, LASH LAB’s strip lashes (starting at $32) are easy to apply at home on your own. What sets these false eyelashes apart from other versions is that they are made with mink, sable, and pony hairs—known for their realistic appearance and lightweight feel—and last for about 25 uses. The lashes are adhered using non-toxic glue ideal for sensitive skin. Several styles of eyelashes are offered in varying lengths and fullness, and LASH LAB’s FitsSticks enable customers to try on the lashes before purchasing them.

If you’re ready to commit to something a bit more permanent, book a lash extensions appointment. The initial visit will take about 90 minutes, where a technician will apply a full set of eyelash extensions (starting at $219). Subsequent appointments every few weeks are required for touch-ups so that lashes look their best.

Dermatologists Natasa Glogovac (left) and Julie Cvijic (right) know just what your skin needs to survive winter.

      Cheeks Rosy and Radiant

Frosty weather and heaters cranked up high can leave skin feeling dry and rough; however, regular facials throughout the season can help remedy this.

At Vie Derma Clinic (1150 West Hastings), owner Julie Cvijic brings more than 35 years of international experience to a range of dermatological services that include anti-aging and just-for-men treatments. To counter harsh winter skin, book an appointment for the Puracne Oxygen Care oxygenating facial or Derma Renewal clinical peel ($170 for 90 minutes). Both of these treatments are designed to exfoliate dead skin cells and detoxify the skin using products that include salicylic acid and alpha hydroxyl. The result is luminous, more even-toned skin.

The recently reopened False Creek Skin Solution Clinic (600a Leg-in-Boot Square) offers another type of facial designed to combat parched skin. The HydraFacial ($129) is a new treatment provided by owner Natasa Glogovac that consists of cleansing and exfoliating, a gentle acid peel, and extractions using vortex suction to clean out pores. A mixture of antioxidants and hyaluronic acid are applied to the now-fresh face to nourish and hydrate, leaving skin feeling soft and supple.
