If you're a filmmaker who loves outdoor adventures, there are two grants from the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival that you might want to consider applying for.

The VIMFF has joined with Arc'Teryx to create a new film grant designed to help emerging filmmakers get a start in adventure filmmaking.

The chosen filmmaker will receive the VIMFF Adventure Film Grant of $5,000 to produce their proposed project about self-propelled wilderness-oriented travels. The finished film will premiere at the following VIMFF.

The recipient will also be mentored by the Arc'Teryx professional and in-house media team.

The deadline for applications is December 31. Application information is available online at the VIMFF website.

The winner will be announced at the VIMFF in February 2017.

      Ben Jordan

Meanwhile, interested filmmakers can also apply for the MEC Adventure Grant, offered by VIMFF with MEC.

The grant will help to fund local adventurers undertake an exploratory and human-powered outdoor expedition that involves such activities as hiking, trail running, cycling, climbing, skiing, and paddling.

The expedition must include high-quality video or photographic coverage.

The deadline is December 31. Details are available at the VIMFF website.

      Stuart Kohut

In 2017, the VIMFF will showcase the results of last year's recipients of the grant: Benjamin Jordan, who planned to paraglide (fly-camp) from Vancouver to Calgary; Jeremy Williams, Stuart Kohut, and Peyal Lacesse, who will travel from Bute Inlet to the Chilcotin Plateau; and Evan Guilbault, who hopes to travel the Tahumming Traverse in record time.
