      Christmas Market at the Quay

      December 1 at Lonsdale Quay Market (123 Carrie Cates Court, North Vancouver)

      The Lonsdale Quay Market is hosting its own holiday shindig tonight (December 1) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., where you’ll find some of the Lower Mainland’s most noteworthy up-and-coming businesses. Expect hand-stamped silverware by And Then Again, breezy button-ups from Power of My People, leather totes by Your Bag of Holding, and more. The Artisan Farmer’s Market will also be onsite with a selection of B.C.–made foods and existing market vendors at the Quay will be offering special deals. Bring the tots: a performance by the VOC Sweet Soul Gospel Choir and a visit from Santa are both on the agenda.

      TOQUE Craft Fair

      From December 2 to 4 at Western Front (303 East 8th Avenue)

      A yearly fundraiser for the Western Front, the TOQUE Craft Fair may just be Vancouver’s most well-curated holiday market. Stop by the artist-run centre this weekend and shop over 25 artisans—many of whom you’ll recognize from the city’s hippest boutiques—including vegan skincare line Fable Naturals, leatherworker and accessories designer Erin Templeton, and sock-maker Strathcona Stockings. Books, LPs, and a limited-edition tea towel designed by ceramist and TOQUE vendor Maggie Boyd will also be available, with partial proceeds benefiting Western Front’s art and music programs.

      Etsy Winter Market

      From December 3 to 4 at the Pipe Shop Building (115 Victory Ship Way, North Vancouver)

      Browse the Interweb’s number-one handmade market IRL in North Vancouver this weekend, where you’ll find more than 80 local designers and artists. Among the goods will be adorable critter-themed paintings and prints, ethically crafted leather jewellery, and patterned wallets and passport holders from names like Art + Soul Creative Co., Scandinazn, and Pecan Tree Creations. For the home, you’ll also find vintage bulbs by East Van Light, concrete planters from Em’Say, upcycled pallet furnishings by Retro Repurposed, and more.

      The OddFellows Market: Get Scrooged 

      From December 3 to 4 at the Wise Hall (1882 Adanac Street)

      Looking for a few offbeat gifts for the self-proclaimed weirdos on your list? Make your way to East Vancouver this weekend and peruse quirky items from 35-plus makers. Up for grabs will be hand-painted Mason jars by Rustica Custom Finishes, enamel earrings from deb V designs, and mugs decorated with pun-tastic phrases by Cedar and Stain. (Think quips like “pot head” accompanied by an image of a teapot or “show me your kitties” alongside a silhouette of a cat.) The husband-and-wife team behind Vancouver’s London Fields Shoppe will also be onsite with an array of vintage and stationery goods.

      DOUGLAS PARK POTTERY CLUB

      Douglas Park Pottery Club’s Winter Sale

      December 4 at Douglas Park Community Centre (801 West 22nd Avenue)

      The Douglas Park Community Centre’s spring pottery sale was such a great success that it’s hosting another one this Sunday (December 4). Browse a selection of ceramic items handmade, including jewellery, vases, serving dishes, candleholders, and two-toned tumblers, all handmade by the pottery club’s members. While a handful of the ceramists are hobbyists, some have been working the wheel for as many as 10 years so you can count on a variety of styles and shapes. You’ll also have the chance to take a peek at the community centre’s studios, sign up for pottery classes, and speak to instructors to learn more about the art.
