Jasper Pride and Kelowna's Peak Pride offer two more LGBT ski events for 2017

Whistler Pride (which was held from January 22 to 29) recently wrapped up its 25th year. If you missed that celebration of rainbows on the slopes, there are two more Western Canadian LGBT ski events coming up to take note of.

Considering the political climate of the times, these events might also be alternate travel destinations for Canadians, as well as international travelers, if you're avoiding entering or boycotting the United States due to Trump's policy changes for immigration and travel.

American LGBT skiers may also want to consider these events if you're feeling uncomfortable or unsafe in some areas of the U.S.

Over in our neighbouring province, Jasper Pride 2017 is gearing up once again.

The festival will hold its 8th annual celebration in Jasper, Alberta from March 9 to 12.

With over 20 events, there'll be everything from a flag-raising ceremony to a dance party featuring DJ Riki Rocket. There's also a beer sampling party, a female and male burlesque show, and a bear party (this is the kind of bear encounter on the mountains that's safe).

For those interested in exploring the wonders of the winter world, there's an ice walk tour of the Maligne Canyon to observe frozen waterfalls, ice caves, and ice formations. If you're adventurous enough to go even further and get a great workout, there's a guided climb (and descent) along 30 metres of a frozen waterfall.

      Rockaboo Mountain Adventures

For a break from the outdoors, there's also a film screening of In the Turn, a 2014 documentary about a 10-year-old trans girl living in rural Canada who faces rejection, insults, and both verbal and physical conflict from her classmates and teachers. She finds camaraderie, acceptance, and empowerment from an international queer roller derby collective.

      Big White Ski Resort

Later on in the year, Peak Pride will launch its inaugural festival from April 7 to 9 at Big White Ski Resort in Kelowna.

Although the schedule is short and sweet, with an opening reception, ski parade, beer garden, brunch, and parties, that means there'll be plenty of time to get out on the slopes.

DJs will include Landon Chorney, Sklar Love, D3viant, and Del Stamp, and drag queens will include Calgary's Visa DeKline and more.
