      Beth Richards summer shop

From now until July 23 at 434 Columbia Street

Local swimwear designer Beth Richards is popping up in Chinatown this weekend to show off her latest collection of locally and ethically produced bikinis and one-pieces.

Featured prominently are dark floral prints; shades of blush, maroon, and sky blue, and flattering off-the-shoulder and peekaboo cuts that are at once sporty, fun, and flirty. Check out Richards’s knotted one- and two-piece sets, the heather-grey version of which is produced from an Italian stretch fabric that the designer had made to mimic the fibres of her favourite cotton sweatshirt.

Also onsite is a selection of minimalist womenswear and jewellery by Vancouver’s Melissa Araujo and Richards’s Censor Tee, the proceeds from which go to women’s organizations such as the Gloria Steinem Foundation.

      Poppy Barley

      Poppy Barley pop-up shop

From now until August 31 at Nicole Bridger (14 Water Street)

Canadian footwear company Poppy Barley continues its pop-up into the summer in Gastown. The Edmonton-based company offers ethically produced men’s and women’s shoes, including sandals, heels, and oxfords, as well as the made-to-order boots that first put the brand on the map.

All products are crafted from high-quality leather by a team of artisans in Mexico and are known for their comfy fits. In addition to Poppy Barley’s summer capsule collection, which includes buttery slides, flats, and peep-toe mules, shoppers can also expect to find accessories such as crossbody bags and totes.

If you can’t find what you’re looking for—or require a custom foot width, boot height, or calf girth—you’ll be able to order your perfect pair onsite.

      Nordstrom

      Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

From July 21 to August 6 at Nordstrom (799 Robson Street)

Forget Boxing Day—there’s no other time of year that Nordstrom does it bigger than during its anniversary sale.

The Seattle-born department store is offering all sorts of deals in celebration of the occasion with discounts on everything from Foreo face-cleansing brushes and Longchamp totes to Mackage leather jackets, and of course, plenty of shoes. Other designer markdowns include Frame denim; Ted Baker London suits; 3.1 Phillip Lim satin bombers; and sunglasses by Gucci, Kate Spade, and more—all for at least 20 percent off.

What sets this sale apart from others, however, is that it features slashes costs on brand-new items—not last season’s leftovers—which will return to regular pricing in August. A slew of special events, free samples, and gifts-with-purchases in the beauty department help seal the deal.

      Friends with Benefits

      Friends with Benefits pop-up shop

      On July 22 (from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.) at 756 Powell Street

This adorable community space in Vancouver’s Granview-Woodlands ’hood—or East Village, depending on who you ask—hosts a bi-weekly pop-up shop that carries a mix of locally crafted and secondhand goods.

The shop is run and curated by friends Renée Power and Mia Fiddis, who work with local vintage hunters like Hocus Pocus and Mountain Girl Goods Co. to stock a fresh range of men's and women's denim, one-off blouses, frocks, and other apparel. Other available items include handcrafted ceramics, jewellery, art, and tote bags by brands like Caitlin Prince, Reason and Madness, and Alisha Lucia.

Get there early to snag one of the screen-printed graphic Ts designed by Power and Fiddis that are all about self-love. Their latest is a shirt that boasts the words “I’m the one I’ve been waiting for”.
