Fourth annual VFS Women in Games Scholarship goes to Kristina Soltvedt Wiik
Vancouver Film School has named the winner of its fourth annual Women in Games Scholarship.
The award takes care of Kristina Soltvedt Wiik’s tuition for VFS’s one-year game-design program.
Based in Norway, Wiik is a journalist at Gamereactor Magazine and a writer of gaming fiction.
“My initial reaction to receiving the Women in Games Scholarship was disbelief,” Wiik said in a VFS news release today (April 24). “It is a tremendous privilege to be awarded such a coveted scholarship and I can’t help but be excited at the possibility of realizing my dreams. I’m really looking forward to the year ahead of me, and the ensuing opportunities that VFS will surely offer.”
In 2009, VFS established the scholarship to encourage women to consider careers in the male-dominated video-game industry.
Last year’s winner was Larissa Baptista of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, who will graduate in June.
