Google TV launches in Canada this summer with Sony Internet Player

Google’s interactive television service is on its way to Canada.

Sony Canada announced this week that it will be the first company to bring a product powered by Google TV to Canada, when it releases its Sony Internet Player NSZ-GS7 in August.

When hooked up to a TV, the $199.99 device will allow users to use that TV to browse the web with Chrome, watch videos on YouTube, and use apps on Google Play.

“Google TV enhances the viewer experience by allowing consumers to easily find what they want to watch, listen to or play using familiar search engine technology,” Hideki Ito, senior director of marketing for home network products at Sony Canada, said in a June 25 news release.

The Sony Internet Player with Google TV comes with a Bluetooth remote control featuring a backlit QWERTY keyboard, a touchpad, and a three-axis motion sensor for games.

Pre-orders for the device start on Wednesday (June 27) at the Sony Store.
