The incredible indie explosion: Humans
Peter Ricq is one half of the duo Humans. As heard on their most recent CD, Traps, he and his musical partner Robbie Slade make thumping electro guaranteed to get the after-hours dance party started.
Best local release other than yours:
“No Gold’s New Recipe and Calamalka’s All the Way Up are tied. If Bankrobber had a release, they would probably be my favourite, though.”
The year’s best gig:
“I really enjoyed Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs at the Electric Owl [on August 4]. It felt like a rave party by 11 p.m., and how often could you say that? Okay, I say that a lot, actually.”
What classic never leaves the turntable?
“Doesn’t everyone have a copy of [Michael Jackson’s] Thriller?”
Where are we impressing your out-of-town friends?
Like LMFAO, who’s sexy and knows it?
“Glenn Alderson [marketing manager and B.C. editor of Beatroute] or Tristan Orchard, or both together. Have you seen those two guys? They are sex in pants that walk around and party.”
Uncle Morty left you his fortune. Where are you opening a venue?
“We’d like to make an underground city of Vancouver right under Vancouver’s downtown, with the buildings hanging upside down and hot lava running below. It will be a green city. We’ve got it all figured out, just waiting for a couple of investors.”
