Retro pops up at Velveteen Vintage and Beggars Banquet

For fashionistas who enjoy the thrill of the hunt, there are two cool pop-up markets for vintage-lovers happening in February.

Velveteen Vintage is a youth-run vintage clothing pop-up shop at East 10th Avenue and Kingsway. The shop, which sells men’s and women’s retro clothing and shoes is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., but what’s really special about this cool little gem is its Retro Saturday sales. On select Saturdays, shoppers can fill up a bag for $10—a deal you’d be hard-pressed to find anywhere else in Vancouver. The next Retro Saturday sale happens on Saturday (February 11), just in time to lock down a sweet, retro Valentine’s Day outfit.

Beggars Banquet is a new flea market-type event happening in the old Boneta restaurant space (1 Cordova Street). The monthly market runs February 24 to 26 (from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday). The pop-up shop promises a well-curated selection of vintage goods (from retro clothing and shoes to homeware) as well as new, quality goods (handcrafted leather pieces, potted plants, and zines). Grownups can sip as they shop at this stylish event—there’s a cash bar.
