I've come to realize, after almost 5 1/2 years of doing these that my Sports Editorial cartoons fall into three categories:
a) Commentary / Lampoonage (the ones attempting humor and insight)
b) Tribute / Memorial (Linden, Bourdon etc.)
c) Recognition / Time capsule (this cartoon and others previous to this)
This realization, especially of (c) above has given me a bit more perspective on my work and taken away a bit of the stress of trying to be funny (which some of you will say I have never achieved) in every cartoon. Sometimes they are simply a record of an important event in Vancouver's or another cities/leagues sports history... and I'm cool with that, even humbled.
