Tiny dancer
North Vancouver's Tutu Design has created a line of dance-inspired shoes suitable for any pint-sized Pavlova. Featuring nonslip soles and ankle elastic, the Petal series ($34 to $36) features appliqué flowers on the toes and comes in pink or chocolate brown, while the Pirouette ($36 to $38)—in black, pink, light blue, or white—takes the dance inspiration a little further, with a bow detail and removable grosgrain ribbons. Check out Tutu's creations at Bobbits for Kids (2935 West 4th Avenue), Fine Finds (1014 Mainland Street), and Baby Cheeks (101–14012 32nd Avenue, Surrey).

Belted bellies
Sure, creating and nurturing a new life is miraculous, but it can also be a pain. As if back spasms weren't bad enough, the unseemly medical girdles meant to alleviate discomfort are anything but a sight for sore eyes. Enter Daisychain Maternity, a Courtenay-based venture whose stylish maternity support belts ($64.99) aren't just pain relievers, but fashion statements as well. They're available in four styles at shops including Boomers and Echoes (1985 Lonsdale Avenue, North Vancouver), Hazel and Co. (4280 Main Street), and Fine Finds (1014 Mainland Street).

A leg up
Seattle-based BabyLegs has unveiled the new Cool! line of leg covers ($15.95) that keep tiny limbs sheltered from rays, thanks to a single-ply breathable mesh fabric with a UPF rating of 50+. Featuring brightly coloured butterfly, polka-dot, sailboat, ring, daisy, or heart patterns, they're at stores like Crocodile Baby (2156 West 4th Avenue) and Bobbits for Kids (2935 West 4th Avenue), and are coming soon to EIO! Kids (3404 Cambie Street).

Surf's up Calgary-based Surfmonk Canada has created surfer caftans with hoods and ragged hems. Made of an organic bamboo and cotton blend, these beach-friendly cover-ups can double as a towel. Baby-sized caftans ($89) come in bamboo green and white; bigger kids' are white, bamboo green, or butter yellow ($99).
