Vancouver's HootSuite swallows up Seesmic
HootSuite Media Inc. has taken over one of its competitors in the social-media-management space.
The Vancouver-based tech company announced today (September 6) that it has acquired Seesmic.
Both the HootSuite and Seesmic platforms allow users to handle accounts on multiple social networks via mobile, desktop, and web applications.
“I have always had a lot of respect for Seesmic’s CEO, Loïc Le Meur, and the role Seesmic has played in advancing social business,” HootSuite CEO Ryan Holmes said in a news release. “We are thrilled to welcome Seesmic’s users into the HootSuite family.”
So what does this news mean for Seesmic users?
The Seesmic blog states: "Initially, support for both products will continue, however we will soon be bringing everyone into one great platform. We’re working on ways to make the transition as smooth as possible so keep an eye out for updates."
On its blog, HootSuite says it will be "transitioning" Seesmic's business users to its own tools. HootSuite is encouraging consumer users of Seesmic to look at Twitter's apps.
HootSuite works with Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, YouTube, Flickr, and Tumblr, and boasts five million users.
