CBC Debaters star and Just for Laughs alumni Charlie Demers is one of Vancouver’s best-loved comedians. He’s also a socialist. Charlie was born in 1980, right between the election of Ronald Reagan in the US and Margaret Thatcher in the UK, the worst era for socialism since Marx wrote Das Kapital. In the last thirty years, the richest 1% have accumulated more wealth than in any other time in modern history. In Leftovers, the West Coast’s funniest political comic tears out his hair trying to figure out why it’s so damn hard for us to imagine anything else.
