Come for the music…stay for the stories and the warm, laid-back acoustic atmosphere. The March 31 edition of this long-running songwriters’ showcase features a quadruple whammy of a line-up: Shari Ulrich, Barney Bentall, Tom Taylor and Christopher Ward. The first three are Canadian folk/rock icons who tour as a trio in between their many successful solo projects, so you might think a fourth artist would be odd man out…but this one can more than hold his own: he helped launch MuchMusic back in the day as Canada’s first “VJ”, and has written songs for some of the biggest names in pop, including most famously “Black Velvet” for Alannah Myles. In short, with these folks sharing the Roundhouse stage, it’ll be easy to see why Bluebird North: Where Writers Sing & Tell is one of the richest live music experiences our city has to offer.
