Wednesdays - April 15, 22 and 29th in the Wise Hall Lounge.
Have you ever wanted to play around with a loop pedal but didn't want to go through the hassle of renting or borrowing one just so you could find out? This is for YOU!

Singer/Looper/Hugger Doug Koyama is going to set up his loop rig at The WISE Hall Lounge for three Wednesdays in April for a Loopy Artist Residency/Loop workshop and he would love to show you what it's all about.

Please bring your voices, your instruments and you kind intention
Doug Koyama makes songs about love. Each impromptu composition is the expression of the moment in which it exists.

Improvised A Capella with a loop pedal is the most compelling thing you’ve never heard before. Rich vocals are looped in
limitless layers of interlocking patterns where poly-rhythm and discordance dance on impossible aural landscapes. Invented language introduces the idea of storytelling without the encumbrance of words, the whole thing melts into an experience that will leave you breathless.

“STRANGE THINGS HAPPEN when Douglas Koyama opens his mouth. Sounds spring forth and combine into rhythmic phrases, then stack into layered constructions. It might seem like magic, unless you know that he's using a digital looper to create his improvised excursions, and even then it's still quite beguiling, a gentle and melodic take on an avant-garde technique that has its roots in Steve Reich and Terry Riley's experiments of the 1960s.”
