Virtuoso New York trumpeter, Ingrid Jensen is guest soloist in the premiere of her sister, Montreal composer/ saxophonist Christine Jensen’s concerto for the 18-piece Hard Rubber Orchestra. Other highlights are the premiere of a beautiful lyrical piece by cellist/ composer Peggy Lee, a high-energy new work by composer/ singer/ guitarist Eric Wettstein and selections from Crush, Hard Rubber Orchestra’s first recording in 12 years.

Formed by artistic director John Korsrud in 1990, the Hard Rubber Orchestra has consistently been one of Canada’s most active and unpredictable ensembles of creative music, presenting concerts of original music by some of Canada’s most exciting composers, performed by Vancouver’s finest musicians. The orchestra has recorded three CDs and toured across Canada and to Europe. In 2005, Hard Rubber New Music received the Alcan Arts Award, the largest arts award in Canada for the creation of new work. Over the past 25 years, the Society has produced both concerts and larger theatrical works including operas, avant ice shows and arts raves and commissioned more than 50 new works by composers Kenny Wheeler, Darcy James Argue, Scott Good, Brad Turner, Phil Dwyer, Michael Blake, Fred Stride, Hugh Fraser, Linda Bouchard, Howard Bashaw, and Montreal’s Jean Derome and René Lussier among others.
