Maraya: Sisyphean Cart is a mobile ‘sousveillance’ cart that conducts a site-specific participatory spatial investigation of Vancouver’s False Creek and the Dubai Marina. It premiered at the 20th International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA) in Dubai in November 2014, and completes its second leg for ISEA 2015 in Vancouver.

See up close the custom-designed cart with mounted automated pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera that was pulled by audience members / participants along the both waterfront seawall paths. View select images taken from the camera installed in the gallery space. Will you recognize Vancouver’s waterfront from Dubai’s?

Public Art Pull (walk): Aug, 16, 1-5pm
Please join us in a public art pull (walk) on August 16, 1-5 pm where we will pull the Sisyphean Cart around Vancouver’s False Creek, in the same way it was pulled along the Dubai Marina last year. The cart is outfitted with an automated pan-tilt-zoom camera and participants are invited to take a turn pulling the cart, adjusting the model buildings on the cart to explore different configurations, building and rebuilding the urban landscape. There will be lots of great conversations about the urban environment, development, urban planning, etc. We’ve organized stops along the way for you to join us for part of the walk. Check our website for the complete schedule and map. http://ow.ly/QvdH0

Can’t make it? We will be live streaming on Periscope, join us there! http://ow.ly/Qv5vt

Roundtable Discussion: Aug. 22, 2pm
Join us to hear Glen Lowry, M. Simon Levin and Henry Tsang speak about their project Maraya: Sisyphean Cart. This project has been developing over 7 years, and holds a great amount of research and nuances. Wander around the gallery, if you haven't already seen the show, and ask any questions you may have –from the installation, to the art walk, the Dubai sessions and how we will be organizing the next Vancouver walk (August 16). Everyone is welcome! More details: http://ow.ly/Qvdnc
