8pm September 10, 11, 12 | SFU Woodwards | B2540

An extraordinary environment constructed by seven unlikely architects - theatre artists, dancers, and a musician. A performance that emerges from heaps of found and recycled materials. An accumulation that attempts to extend and expand beyond the space that holds it. Welcome to the world of The Builders.

In a chaotic merging of theatre and installation, The Builders investigates transformation, territory and the practice of making ourselves at home in the world. Inspired by the worldwide phenomenon of art environments built by outsider artists, The Builders explores the compulsions behind transforming spaces, objects and the self.

Created and directed by Megan Stewart, theatre artist and MFA candidate at SFU’s School for the Contemporary Arts. The Builders was devised over a five-month process in collaboration with the ensemble: Robert Azevedo, Gordon Havelaar, Eveleen Kozak and Keely O’Brien. Featuring music by David Cowling and the Original Rhinestone Cowboy.

Performances take place September 10-12 at 8pm in the basement of SFU Woodwards at Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, Room B2540, 149 West Hastings Street. Tickets are $5 / $15. Advance tickets are recommended due to limited seating and can be purchased online: www.sfu.ca/sca/events/details/the-builders.
