On the cover of The Slits’ 1979 album Cut, Viv Albertine, Tessa Pollitt, and Ari Up stand shirtless, covered in mud, exuding a look of defiance. It’s a complicated thing to look at an image, to consider what it represents and how it circulates. The artists in this exhibition are engaged in a conversation about positions of looking, about subtraction and addition, about time and accumulation. Annie MacDonell makes films and photographs. Lis Rhodes makes films. The Slits made punk music. Elizabeth Zvonar makes collages and sculptures.
