Festival of Lights
If we were seven years old again, we’d be trying to figure out how to run away from home and move onto Candy Cane Lane in the middle of this brilliantly sprawling display. It’d be like living inside the sparkling psyche of the season itself. The manicured landscape of VanDusen’s Festival of Lights varies from waterside walkways to open squares and winding forest trails, all studded and wrapped in colour-schemed lights, over a million of them in total. (How many miles of wire is that? Where in the name of Clark Griswold do they store it all before and after?) The designers have gone and added another five acres of illumination this year, making it even easier to wander away from the crowd and into a more serene holiday vision, enhanced by a fine hot-chocolate buzz.
